last spring break i was in new york to check out the whitney biennial, i also managed to make it to a few gallerys. David Zwirner had a Marcel Dzama show and i was blown away at how good it was. Before the show I was never really that hyped on Dzama, i thought his work was just a collection of cute watercolors, boy was i wrong. Of all the shows and all the art that i saw that week, Dzama's work has made the biggest impact on me in the long run. His artwork has resonated in my brain, but not his drawings oddly enough, it was his film.
The film "Lotus eaters" was in he back room of the gallery, there were two or three rows of seats and there was a piano next to the projector. It was small and intimate setting. The first time i went to the gallery i didnt have time to watch the whole film, but a few days later i went back to check it out in its entirety. I'm glad i did, because images of it still haunt me, in a good way.
yesterday all i could think about at the studio was the film and i went home and found some clips...
